What We Do
RefreshKC is an interior painting program with the goal of encouraging and facilitating community involvement. We partner with neighborhood associations and other non-profit groups to help lead a week-long service event in each community. Volunteers provide the paint and service while homeowners provide lunch. The goal is to create an opportunity to have meaningful conversation with the homeowner about issues/problems they perceive in their neighborhood as well as ways in which they would be willing to help meet these needs through community actions groups. For 2017, we have partnered with three neighborhood associations and leading organizations to offer service weeks in the Blue Hills, Tri-Blenheim, and NUFA neighborhoods of Kansas City, MO.
What's In It For Me?
Community Organizations: Many community organizations are looking for ways to connect with the people in their community. RefreshKC creates community connections in an amazing way through its Community Action Team. You cannot just walk into a random neighborhood and start asking people if they want to help meet needs in their community. And then expect them to help. The strong relational aspect of RefreshKC creates a platform from which you can launch significant community transformation.
Neighborhood Associations: Our program adds significantly to the quality of life of your Neighborhood’s residents. First of all, who does not love a fresh coat of paint. Second, because “It is not about the paint,” the relational element of RefreshKC along with the focus on community action really increases the community morale. This has a positive impact on the relationship between the neighborhood associations and their residents.
Suppliers: The relational element of RefreshKC sets it apart from almost any other community action program. Many suppliers are looking for a way to invest in their community and the investment in RefreshKC goes a long way. Donating paint and brushes that not only paint walls but actually transforms the community is an investment that goes a long way. Suppliers are also encouraged to allow their employees to volunteer a day or two in the RefreshKC program. This makes their investment much more personal and rewarding. All major sponsors are featured prominently in RefreshKC materials.
Volunteers: One of the things we find in many communities is that there are many people who want to give back to their communities but don’t know how. And many community action programs major on the work to be done and overlook the therapeutic value of relationships. RefreshKC is personal. RefreshKC is relational. RefreshKC breaks down barriers and builds bridges.
